Components of a removable insulation blanket
The Outer Layer (cold face)
The protective outer layer of the blanket (cold face), generally composed of Silicone impregnated fiberglass, Aluminized Fiberglass or Teflon Impregnated cloths. Options such as Teflon are used for providing greater oil and chemical resistance. This layer can also feature an external layer of Stainless Steel Mesh to give even greater durability and strength. This is generally specified where the blankets are removed more frequently for inspection and servicing.
The Middle Layer
This is the insulating layer, and provides the main reduction in temperature to the heat source. Materials such as fiberglass needle mat or Temp Mat are often used.
The Inner Layer (hot face)
The primary inner layer (hot face) is a layer of high temperature cloth; with optional internal encasing of Stainless Steel type knitted Wire Mesh. The mesh adds an extra layer of strength and durability.
The Fasteners
Aside from the 3 components listed above, the final component is some type of fastening system. All edges and seams are stitched using high temperature threads. Fastening systems such as high grade stainless steel anchors, springs, and tie wire are also used in final preparation.
